JHP Comparison with the P32 and P3ATRange again yesterday 2/16 with a newpaper wet pack to compare the P32 with the P3AT. The following test results are interesting and with several surprises. No picture for now, see previous post for an idea. This test run didn't show me any big difference to get excited about between the P32 and P3AT as far as expansion is concerned. The main difference is a tiny bit better penetration with the P3AT, when the bullet did expand, that is. Since minimum acceptable penetration in a newspaper wetpack is about 7", neither the P32 or P3AT exhibited adequate penetration using JHP ammo. Federal HydraShok and Rem GoldenSaber might do better but I didn't have those in .32cal to compare with. See last posts for .380 data and picture. You might say Speer 90gr GoldDot is barely acceptable in the P3AT. But not the CorBon, again it didn't expand like the first test I ran. Note the anomoly, CorBon expanded in .32, not in .380. And Speer expanded in .380 and not in .32. Weird! So take these results with a grain of salt. I've never said wetpack test are "official", "valid", "FBI approved". So, if you think you've found the perfect JHP ammo, you'd better test it in your pistol. For now, I'll stick with the P3AT for a BUG only with a variety of JHP ammo in the magazine. My primary carry is gonna be the .45!! (Check the 'Other Guns' forum for my latest .45 data.) og BTW, the only malfunction during this test was a FTE in the P3AT with the lousy CorBon .380 90gr.
