    Lyman 47th Edition

I just remember I bought this reloading handbook about 19 years ago. I notice there is a 49th Edition now. should I fork out the 25 or so Bucks to get an up dated version?
I think the newer one would just have updated data on shapes and sizes, am I correct?

Powders and bullets have changed since then. There have also been several new powders, bullets, and even calibers added since then, and primers are hotter today than they were then. I would update to the newer version. $25.00 is not a big investment when it comes to safety.

I would at least verify the loads that I am interested in. You could check the load data linked to in the reloading sticky at the top of the forum to see if any of them match.

If you cannot verify the loads with a more modern source, you should probably drop the starting load by 5 to 10 percent, load a small batch, and see whether or not you want to increase the charge from there. If you are using the same powder, primer, and bullet listed in the load data, you will probably be alright. I just wouldn't take the chance, personally.

    OK, Thanks for the Tips!!
My next trip into town I'll check a few places, like Gander Mtn & Borders. I would like to look through the book before buying. Unless you guys could suggest a Book/manual that has the data, process and theory? I need a complete Education.

Borders should have The ABC's of Reloading 8th Edition which is pretty informative. They will have the Hogdon reloading manual (magazine, in the periodicals section) as well.

Gander Mountain should have the actual reloading manuals, though I too am undecided at this point of which one or two to get. Any suggestions anyone?

I would suggest getting them, if available, from the manufacturers of the components that you plan to use the most.

For example: When I started reloading, I was using Speer Grand Slam rifle bullets and Speer Gold Dots for my defensive handgun rounds, so I got a Speer reloading manual. Truth be told, you can't really go wrong here. All of them hold a wealth of information on loads and loading.

If you want to save money, you could make your own loading manual, with only the information that pertains to the calibers for which you will load, by getting a 3-ring binder and printing the pertinent load data found at the links in the reloading sticky at the top of the forum. Those will always be the most up to date loads available, and they are free.
