The officer made a bad call. She was more concerned about the only guy she DID see as opposed to the possible bad guys she DIDN't. If she was indeed fairly new I'd say let's hope she learns something from it. It's pretty easy to sit here at a computer and tell people what they did wrong - we have both the advantage of hindsight, distance and a cup of hot coffee (sip).

There are certain jobs that take the right person who do not require on the job training. If she gets scared in a shoot out rounds a corner scared and shoots a child, is she still new tomorrow and we give her a break. Some jobs take the person with the right nerve. Most importantly where lives are at risk. If she was scared of this fellow I would have hated to be his partner and come around the corner as she was waiting for back-up and surprise her.
