    New Toy

    I went to a gun show this morning and came home with a new toy. It's a Colt Walker .44. The Walker is the most powerful black powder pistol ever made and was the most powerful pistol period untill the .357 came along. Here it is with my 1860 Colt Old Army, the bottom pistol, and though both are .44's notice how much bigger the Walker's cylinder is. Always wanted a Walker so I'm pretty happy.

    that would have been my guess.

    good find. Being a Texan, I have a special fondness, historically speaking, for the Colt Walker. Never had the opportunity to shoot one, and not sure if my short chunky trigger finger could even reach it.

    Thanks. All my family, on my mother's side, is from Panola County, Texas. I always wanted a Walker and I recently bought a new .50 barrel for my T/C Encore. I also had a CVA Optima Pro which, having the new barrel for my Encore, I no longer needed. Took it to the gun show to sell or trade. I was asking $300 but would have taken $250. A dealer had this Walker and he realy wanted my Optima Pro. I got the Walker and a $20 bill for my rifle. The Walker has never been fired and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they bring $400 used on Gun Broker so I'm a pretty happy camper. Now I just have to find a holster for it. It's a beautiful pistol and the pic in no way does the case hardening justice.

    Be prepared, they KICK!!!!
    But it is a hoot!
    Remember the Walker was carried in a "saddle holster,,,and NOT on your belt.
    It was "known" as a horse pistol.
    My ancestors passed this info down from their "experiences".

    They were actualy carried both ways. I've seen vintage photo's of men carrying them on their belts. I'm thinking of making a shoulder rig for mine and carrying it with me Muzzleloader Season when hunting Whitetails.

    Here's a couple better pics of it;

    Thanks. Here's the stats on it;
    The Colt Walker holds a powder charge of 60 grains (3.9 g) in each chamber, more than twice what a typical black powder revolver holds. It weighs 4½ pounds (2 kg) unloaded, has a 9-inch (229 mm) barrel, is 15.5 inches long and fires a .44 caliber (0.454 in, 11.53 mm diameter) conical and round ball.
