I use the Don Hume 001.

Considerably less elegant than Joseph's Don Hume, but very functional is the Desantis Nemeis pictured below. It's the only pocket holster for cheapskates like me.

the leather looks great, but who's gonna see it (sorry, Joseph...not a jab), but the gription (yes, that's a real word in East Texas) on the outside surface of the cheapo just looks much more functional.
But, heck, what do I know. I still wear studly tight fittin' jeans. Takes me two hands to get my truck keys outta my pockets, so I never pocket carry a pistol.

I see my KD Pocket Defender Convertible 2 in 1 almost every day, and still am overjoyed I bought it. It is as good today as it was then.Originally Posted by mr surveyor

I use a Nemesis; had a P3AT/Nemesis stolen and bought the exact same thing to replace them. Works perfectly for me.

I'm not suggesting that leather isn't my personal preference for holster material in general, just that a holster in the pocket isn't apt to be seen enough to display high quality tooling. Besides, I thought you pocket packers looked for holsters with the retention on the outside![]()

I bought the Hume not because of how it looks - it's been correctly pointed out that you can't see it when it's in use - but because of how it works. In spite of the picture I posted (which I lifted from Hume's website), the heavy leather of the Hume is not contoured to the shape of the pistol on the outside - it's smooth, which means it doesn't "print" no matter what pants I'm wearing. I didn't find that to be the case with other materials.

Doing a little further checking, I note that the Hume is now "ambidextrous." That wasn't the case when I bought mine - they were right or left handed, molded on one side and smooth on the other to avoid printing, which is the primary purpose of a pocket holster. So I'd say it's best if you can go to a gun shop where they will allow you to try various holsters with your carry piece so you can see for yourself what works and what doesn't.

Leather v. cloth is a personal preference battle. A pocket holster should primarily cover the trigger, in addition to holding the pistol in an upright, consistent position for consistent draws. While it is ideal to carry a pistol in a pocket of its own, the holster will keep any other pocket items out of the gun.
Prevention of printing, IMO, is the least concern with pocket carry. Unless you're carrying a fairly large pocket arm (which the P3AT is not), you're going to notice it more than anyone else. If that is your concern, however, several manufacturers offer holsters with a panel to the outside, or there are also wallet-style holsters.
Joseph is right that you should visit your local well-stocked fun store or fun show and compare holsters first hand. All we can do is share our experiences with the hope of minimizing your unused-holster-box load.
