On further examination with a magnifying glass, I found the "ejector" It is in no danger of "falling out" It fits very snugly in place!!! So that is why I didnt recognise it. The way the manual is written it would seem that the ejector is loose and flopping around. It is not, at least in my gun. It took some force and a pair of tweezers to get it out!!!

Well, I'm certainly glad you found your ejector still in place. Many of us have spent some time looking on our garage floors for that elusive little beast. At least in both of my P-3AT pistols, it falls right out. That yours is fitted more tightly sounds like a good thing.

I have never seen a commercial .380 ACP round just made with lead. And the lead looks as if it might be fairly soft, which would explain why your smileys are so deep.

You might try some of the more common commercial ammo, at least so you can compare the results with what most other people are shooting.

In my opinion, unless you suffer bullet setback with the resulting possible overpressure in the case when firing, you can ignore the cheerful appearance of your bullets. Sort of like old golf balls, they will still function fine especially for target shooting, which is what I presume you are using the soft lead ammo for.

Like they say in Barbados, "Don't worry. Be happy!"

Those were not commercial rounds. Those were hand loads that I did for my Beretta 9mm to use for target practice. When I sold the Beretta to get the money for the P3-AT I kept the ammo since it also fits the P3-AT.

For self defense I use Hornady Critical Defense HP.

The cure for the smileys seems to be modification of the feed ramp. I have seen dozens of pictures of the finished mod but no one ever takes a picture before the mod. My 2dn Gen P3-AT appears to have a, half hearted, attempt at the mod from the factory. But the arc into the ramp seems to be a bit less (about half as deep) than the hand mods I have seen. I am thinking of taking off a little more of the metal.

Also I noticed some wear on a sharp corner of the frame just below the ramp so I will try to round that off as well.

Whatever. I would recommend shooting it a couple of hundred rounds first, just in case there are any functional issues. You will have less to explain to Kel-Tec if you need their help.

By the same token, if this is just a fun gun, do whatever you like. I only urge caution if you are planning to carry this little puppy and need to ensure it is fully reliable. In that case, go slow on any modifications until you understand the gun better, or at least I would. YMMV

Its a used gun and I imagine several hundred rounds have already passed through it. There is no warranty for second/third/etc owners.
