Hello All Need P3AT Help Please!

    Hello all!
I recently purchased a P3AT (9 days ago), and I find myself needing some help. The pistol just doesn't work... I have tried several different kinds of ammo, and the pin just won't strike the primer. I'm sure there must be a simple issue, but I don't know what it is. Do you have any suggestions?

I was going to start an account here and start a new thread here to say hello, but I didn't have a chance before I had to ask for help. I have asking for help before saying hello!

I suppose you could pull the slide off and make sure the firing pin is moving ok. With the slide off you can take a pencil or something else that wont scratch the metal and push it forward and see if the pin comes out of the hole.
If it is bound up you can loosen the screw that holds it in and rotate the pin, as the pin has a slot in it and the screw must protrude into that slot and not bind it.
If there is nothing obvious call keltec.

    Thank you Sir!
I loosened the screw and tested the pin for function. It seemed to be in working order, but I rotated the pin so that the notch was better in line with the retaining screw. It seemed as though it might have moved a bit better. But it seems like a pretty straightforward design. If that doesn't take care of it, I can't really see what else would be wrong with it.

I never mind having another excuse to go shooting!

The guide rod sticks out at the front of the slide ever so slightly. Like 1/32 of an inch or less. Is that normal? I really wanted to get into this site, look around, and learn, but had problems before I could just stop and smell the roses... Oh well...
    Thanks again for your help!

Yes it is normal for the guide rod to protrude slightly.

Thank you! THe problem it seems is that the hammer is either catching on something or isn't releasing forward. It just sits in the cocked position, laughing at me. It's very frustrating...

Maybe try disassembling and checking for burs... I'd use a Q-tip, they always seemed to hang up when I used them to clean my guns .

If you find any major burs, you could see if filing them off helps your problem.

if it's a new gun.... send it back to the mothership.

In past years many of us would have detail stripped the gun to look for phantoms, and there are a host of videos and powerpoint photo guides to handle the minute details. Sounds like you could have anything from a hammer bar problem to a dysfunctional hammer block, I would call KT for a return. At the best, KT may send you a UPS label and instructions on shipping.... second best is take it back to the ffl and have them ship it via US Postal Service for less than 10 bucks.

A new gun should at least function out of the box without tinkering. Most firearms do need some break-in rounds, but that does require the gun to function.

+1 . . . And get it done quickly. Being able to say you just bought it and it plain will not function should improve your chances of getting a return label to make the process as painless as possible.

Thanks guys! Yes, Kel-Tec has a return label on the way. They are being awesome about it. The only problem now is that since I got my concealed carry permit I hate to leave the house without carrying. Now I will have to go back to carrying the 1911 in my man purse since my boss would poop golden eggrolls if he saw me print and figured out that I was carrying... haha!
