    help

    Hi Guys @Gals,
Picked up a !st GEN P3at at a gun show this weekend.Cleaned it up good and fired 50 rounds threw it,no
problems. Went out next day and it started to jam up. Took it to my gunsmith where he had the same
problems. He thinks it might be the springs. He wants me to order a Extractor, extractor spring, ejector
and a recoil spring assembly. I`m wondering whats better, to throw parts at it or send it in.?
GLAD TO BE PART OF THE FORUM,THANKS.

All of those parts are easy to install. In fact, the extractor and extractor spring are the only ones that even require any tools, and all that is required for that is a small punch. A small nail would even work in a pinch.

Sending it back to the Mother Ship will take far longer.

I'm assuming that it was cleaned before the second outing. I have a 1st gen P-3AT as well, and it is as reliable as the day is long, as long as it is cleaned every 50 to 100 rounds, depending on the ammo being used. The cheap stuff seems to dirty it up faster.

Thanks Magman454 I ordered the parts this morning. As far as ammo goes what do you consider
to be the cheap stuff? Plan on carrying Hornady Critical Defense for Conceal & Carry. I`m
hoping to use Blazer brass or Magtech for practice. PMC is another possibility. Would appreciate all
and any impute on Ammo. Thanks Tim

In my last call to Kel Tec with an issue with my 2nd gen P3AT it was stressed to me NOT to use Magtech ammo. Something about the cases being not a standard length?

    just my 2 cents

By cheap, I mean cheap. All of the ammo manufacturers use lesser quality components in their bulk pack ammo than they do for their premium labels.

For example: Shooting two boxes of Winchester PDX won't leave as much carbon on the slide around the barrel as shooting two magazines of Winchester White Box FMJ practice rounds. When you see that carbon build-up on the slide, it is also in the chamber. That makes for sticky extractions and failures to fully go into battery. Just keep it clean, and it will probably stay happy.

By-the-way, Have you or the previous owner done the customary reliability mods to the pistol? Rampectomy, Chamfering the barrel hood, polishing the feed ramp and chamber, fluff and buff? If not, the procedures to do all of them can be found in this section. All of the procedures are easy to do at home with a dremel tool, and most of them can be done by hand.

Talked to the nice lady at Kel-Tec yesterday about the parts I ordered and she said they would be shipped that day.
I never received a shipping notice and my credit card site said it was still pending. Checked it today and it had been
charged to my account. Still no shipping notice. Do they not give shipping notice?

I didn't. But my parts were "free" so to say and they didn't have any other contact info on me other than the address. It did come within 2 days though through US post.

    Not much help I know

Received my parts from Kel-Tec today. Installed the Extractor and spring. The new Recoil Spring Assembly was
also installed. The ejector they sent me was to big it did not fit.Did the Buff & Fluff while I waited for parts.
The gun doesn`t want to feed. It doesn`t seem to slide right.
I`m kinda Fed up right now. Think I need to walk away for a little bit.

Tried some Blazer Brass This morning. The first round was hanging up but the rest of the
magazine shot cleanly. My gunsmith friend called asking how it was coming. He was feeling
a little responsible because he advised me to buy it at the gun show. He said bring it over
and he opened up the magazine lips a little. It seems to be functioning right now. Gonna
go to range and run some more rounds threw it and if that comes out O.K. I`m
gonna try my carry ammo.If everything is right it`s going in the holster.
