S/D = Self Defense...in ammo, it's the best bang, with the best expansion and penetration you can find

H/D = Home Defense.... either supplied by the above SD weapon and ammo, or better yet a short barreled shottie...I prefer both

SA = Single Action (or Situational Awareness depending on context)

DA = Double Action (Or District Attorney depending on context)

    lots of acronyms out there

For sure test out your defense ammo. I have a PF-9 that will not eat Golden Saber ammo. It will chamber , from the magazine , fired cases but the G/S don't work.

I use 115 grn critical defense loads for my S/D ammo and shoot WWB 115 for range/target work.

Like banana said , get yourself some snap caps and practice that trigger pull.

    Good luck to you.

Hype, yes. Winchester is not the best 9mm ammo money can buy in the world. 124gr is heavier than most target loads, it is the middle child of the 3 common sizes (115, 124, and 147). That might explain the price... It's not great. Same as $14.90 for a box of 50 over 500 rds, $13.45/50 over 1000, $12.95/50 over 5000. I currently buy Federal 115gr for $10.47/50 @ wal mart most every time I see it (though partly fueled now by the rumor of another price hike, I've got a few thousand rounds now).

Depending on availability of 9mm ammo at retailers near you will dictate whether you buy this stuff... But in a PF-9 which tends to be picky, I'd hesitate to drop hundreds of dollars on ammo that you haven't verified yet. Your call tho

I'm about to finish the box off, and am lloking...since the chances are, what, I don't now, 10,000 to 1 (25,000 to 1??) that I am going to actually need any defensive ammo - so, I am really only shootin' at paper - so I don't think I need anything special.

I would like to have a small box of defensive ammo, to keep a mag full - on the nightstand, in addition to something relatively inexpensive for target/practice, correct?

So lets see if I've read well:

I want HP for home-defense protection, correct?

That only leaves weight (grains?) and brand, I reckon ...?

Double Tap 124gr+P GDHP will not function - just too hot, even with the stiffest Wolff Springs.

What about 115gr GDHP Double Taps? And has anyone tried out HST's?

I prefer the medium loads in 9mm, so I haven't tried the 115gr GDHP. Don't know much about the HST.

    I personally own 2 PF9's.

I have shot Sellier-&-Bellot, Winchester and Remington in my PF9's. All FMJ ammo I have tried tends to drag on the bullet tip while feeding and sometimes causes issues. Hollow points have been the most reliable for me.

Overall I have settled on the Winchester 147gr HP defense loads I get at the local Walmart. I have shot hundreds in the PF9 without issues and if I carry the PF9 for defense this is the round I carry. I mostly carry a larger frame Glock with more capacity and have put thousands of Winchester through it, but I really do like the PF9and there are special circumstances when I carry it for protection. I don't have a lot of PF9 action on video but these few shots are one of PF9's with Winchester 147gr Hp.

My best, by far - Hornady Critical Defense. Basically an XTP hollow point with a silicone-rubber filler - keeps the cavity from getting clogged with clothing (or anything else that would inhibit the desired expansion). POSITIVE expansion in ALL media - flesh, gelatin, sand, phone books, dirt, water, etc. Tried 'em all (except live flesh - so far) and can't make that claim for any other HP I've tested...

I read "s/d" as self defense?

I like 115 grain Federals for practice (wal mart $10.50 for 50ct), Hornady 115gr XTP hollow points. I don't see much sence in +P stuff. I want entrance wounds, and no exit wounds. Collateral damage could end up killing your neighbor and costing you jail time. my3cnts
