I finally have the money for a PLR-16, or so I thought. Carol told me that for my birthday, I could go ahead and get it with the overtime money that was coming from my last stint on standby. So I called around a couple of weeks ago, and found 1 each at three local fun shops.
1 was $475, 1 was $479, and 1 was $500 even out the door.
I called this morning to see if the shop that had it for $475 still had it, and the response was "Yes". I told her that I was on my way, and would be there in 20 to 30 minutes.
When I got there, I told the lady behind the counter that I was the one who called about the PLR-16. She pulled it out of the counter and handed it to me. As I was looking it over, I noticed that the tag on the trigger guard said $699.00. I asked if that was the price, and she confirmed that it was. This was a basic PLR-16 with one 10 round magazine, nothing more, and they were asking for more than $30 over MSRP.
I told her that I had been quoted $475 just two weeks ago, and she simply said "supply and demand". I noticed that all of their Kel-Tecs were up over $100.00 more than they were the last time I was in there. She said that no one in town has gotten anything from them in about 2 months, and that they had the largest stock of them in town, which wasn't saying much. They had 4 P-3AT's, 2 PF-9's, 2 P-11's, and 1 PLR-16.
Disgusted, I went back home and called around again. No one else in town has a PLR-16 in stock, and when I asked how long it might take to get one, most of them told me the same thing about Kel-Tec not shipping anything for the past few months, and that they couldn't tell me when they might get one.
Beyond my obvious disappointment, I am beginning to wonder what might be wrong at my favorite firearms manufacturer.
