In a home defense/ home intrusion scenario what weapon would be preferable -- the Kel-Tec SU16C or a 12 gage shotgun?

Twelve gauge pump with bird shot. Why? .223 can go through walls and kill/injure your neighbor or another family member. 12 gauge with bird shot is just plain LETHAL to a human being at <7yds, about the longest distance you'll be shooting in the average house and not likely to penetrate walls under most conditions. My second choice is a .380. Buy one, practice with it. At <10yds it is as deadly as a .44mag if you know how to use it.Originally Posted by franciscu
Rifles in general are more difficult and dangerous to use for home defense. I keep a loaded .380 and a loaded SU16 by my bed at night. The SU is a "backup" in case the .380
fails for some reason.

I'll second that for all the reasons cited plus one more - the "ca-CHUNK" sound of a round being jacked into the chamber of a pump shotgun is a sound everyone is familiar with. If a bad guy hears it, he's probably going to be long gone before you even see him.Originally Posted by Dragunov

+1 on the sound of racking one in a 12 gauge Bro'!Originally Posted by Joseph
+1 on the mess. This would be the downside to the 12 gauge.
