    Cool Help

Was wondering how to remove the aluminum front post sight on my A model. I see two set screws, but I am not familiarized with this rifle yet to begin tearing things off. So, if anyone can tell how to get this bad boy scope ready, I'd appreciate it. If this has been discussed, point me in the right direction PLEASE!

Sorry, but I don't have one. I looked at the exploded diagram, but can't tell from that whether it is screwed on or a compression fit. Google, Bing, and Youtube searches were fruitless.

I just tried a search of our site and found this.

I went back to some of his other posts; It is an SU-16A of which he speaks.

Wonder if that's for the older a model sights, or aluminum? Guess I outta email Kel tec. If I get results that exclude trashing my sight and/or barrel, I will share.

    I have a SU-16a. I removed my front sight after I contacted Kel-tec.
They told me to use a Dremel tool with a thin grinder wheel, and cut thru the composite material, and stop before you mar the steel barrel.
I did this, cut behind and in front.
It was very easy to do. After cutting, you can just bend the cut plastic parts and the front sight comes off.
You will see concentric rings of the steel, blued barrel where the sight was.
    Actually very neat looking.
    Plus, NO MORE sight interference.

I guess I'm confused, cuz my sight isn't plastic. They emailed me back, and said to use a cut off, but I'm wary of doing it and harming the barrel. The two sets screws are blue loctited, tighter than a nuns crotch, so I'm at a loss.

My 'A' model came with the Bravo model (M-16) style sights - metal, not plastic. You know you've got the original A model style sights, right?
Know when to hold 'em...and know when to fold 'em.

I have the same, Bravo sights. They suck, want em gone, but how in the heck do I get them off? This rifles going hunting, I have ARs for battle (not that I would hesitate to use this over them for weight and cleanliness factor.), so the front sight has to go. I don't wanna have to buy super duper high rings just to see over it. Anyone have a suggestion? Heat the sight to loosen the loctite? Or is a die grinder and ziz wheel my only hope?

Heat easily breaks the bond of blue Loctite. Heat with a propane torch for a couple minutes. Grab a screwdriver and put the thing in the set screw and tap down lightly on the screw with a light hammer. This will break the bond after the heat has been applied. Then just remove the screws.
