But probably not soldiers with AKs - I think it is going to be a lot more difficult. seed will have to bring it out here and we will put it to the test.

First of all... Congrats Seed on your new rifle.

On the accuracy the AK's were never designed for long range precision. Maybe long range cover fire and suppresion, but the Russians had their bolt-action snipers just like us and everyone else. (except maybe the French--- I'm thinking long range White Flags.) Razz

The AK is what it is. A bad-ass, 7.62 battle rifle. Lots of SpecOps guys love them and their FAL's (Larry Vickers http://vickerstactical.com/tactical-tips/battle-rifles/ )and who the fuck am I to argue with that.

I like my AR's, some like their M1's, some like their Mini 14's, and SKS's and SIG 556's.

ect, ect... blah blah blah...

It's all good.

From the article MadDog quoted:

Quote:
Jeff Cooper said it well; “The AK is the rifle for the masses and the FAL is the rifle for the classes”.

I need to look into the FAL now, I haven't had much/any dealings with them thus far Confused

Thanks MadDog (and everyone else who appreciated my purchase). If only I actually had it to appreciate, myself...I'm in Kali and have to wait till the 9th. Oh well. I guess I'm getting older because I really don't care, i.e. I'm not staring at the calendar, counting the days. However it really rubs me wrong that I don't have something I spent too much on. Whatever.

Anyway, the plan is to drive out to Vegas and test it alongside PG's AR. I have never actually shot an AR!...although I have shot an AK -- the first time I ever shot. It was so long ago and before I even knew what to compute, such that I can't even remember how it felt shooting or how it performed. One thing I will never forget though is when the friend who took me told me that I owed a bunch of dough for ammo! I had no idea it cost that much to shoot! I do now, of course.

Well I guess I have come full circle. I have an AK (or soon will) and never imagined I would. Next is ordering ammo and having it shipped to PG's house, since I will be shooting it out there. I'm looking at bulk mil-surp non-corrosive FMJ's made by Bernaul, but I am open to suggestions. Let's not forget those rebuilds! And my AR project will wait. By the time I build it, I will decide whether or not to get the piston...the design of which will have been refined over the next year. Then I will start an AR vs. Sig 556 thread!

*shudder*, I don't see what people see in the Sig 556... Its ugly as sin and is nothing like an AR, with all the changeable parts and such. Only benefit I could conceive would be the folding stock option... If I wanted a plastic rifle, I'd get a Sub2K or S&W M&P 15-22 Wink

True. I have the shirt, too. Sure helps pointing out who the sheeple and the libs are when you are at the grocery store. If I ever have a reason to drive into "Little Wanna-Be San Francisco" (aka Austin) I'll wear that shirt and go into an organic grocery store just to see what kind of shit I start. Twisted Evil I'll probably get kicked out.

The funny thing about the SF Bay Area is that the vast majority of people who are actually from the area do not fit the typical stereotype. Most of the wannabe libs are transplants who came to the area because they have this nonsense image of the area. Don't get me wrong, a lot of natives could be pretty obnoxious, but the majority are not people born and raised here in this area. I think Austin is similar in that regard (yeah, I've been there). What really gets their goat is that I am far to the left of what they thought was left (I'm a social libertarian) and they don't know how to handle it...they subscribe to platform politics and don't know how to react when you show how a stance to which they hold, or a politician in which they have faith is actually quite far to the right on the spectrum.

As for the Sig 556, I was just kidding. I will be looking at an AR next go-around.

Two more days! You people have no idea how lucky you are that you don't have to wait for something you paid for. Absolutely ridiculous. But anyway, I am liking what I am seeing price-wise for ammo and for mags...er, rebuild kits. You AR guys should not overlook this fact. With prices fluctuating so much for AK's, you would be wise to consider one when they are on the down-swing. Back in January, free first class citizens could get one like mine for $500! Mags can still be had for under $10 and are widely available. As for ammo, there is no need to worry, so long as you get non-corrosive...AK's will eat virtually anything, steel-cased or not. And it too is cheap, relatively speaking.

If the $$$ was there I'd probably get one. I pretty well went through my gun budget last year with two AR's and two Kel-Tecs plus ammo, accessories. My old Mini-14 sees less and less action but I doubt I'd trade it off because my son really likes that rifle and I consider it an old familiar friend.

Be sure and post pics when you get a chance. I'm one to talk.... I still haven't posted pics of my new AR build I did last Christmas. Due to work and weather I haven't even taken it out to the range yet. Sad Maybe next weekend......

Tell you what...When I visit PG and we blast his AR alongside my AK, we'll post some pics! I'm camera shy when it comes to posting pics of myself, but I'll get PG to post some pics of our toys during our trip to the desert. It'll be a minute though.

By the way, if you are thinking about getting an AK, keep an eye on the AK forums and on KVAR and Atlantic Firearms for sales. If you are a free citizen, you can get some awesome deals from time to time. They are way less expensive than AR's in general and especially during these sales. As I mentioned before, KVAR had the SLG20's and 21's for under $500 not even a month or two ago. No mods are necessary. You are ready to go once you get one.

In my case, I was not so fortunate because I am a Kali captive second class citizen (with all that entails). So I had to find one in the state and then sell some belongings to get it...which cost a lot more than what you can find them for in the free parts of the country.

I like it, but have not been able to shoot it yet. Out here in Kali, you have to have it configured in a stupid way (bullet button, no grip -- or grip without a place for your thumb, etc.). Those are additional parts I have to buy, even though I don't want any of them. Additionally, the ranges out here REALLY suck and often make it their business to prevent you from having fun, i.e. no rapid fire, etc.

So the plan is to go to Vegas and visit my old friend PG and do a side by side with his AR. I can't wait. Unfortunately another matter has popped up...not just for me but almost everyone: taxes. It looks like I will owe what is a significant amount for me. I'll be alright, but it kind of takes the wind out of one's sails in all the fun aspects of life. It certainly has made me delay purchasing ammo...or even health insurance -- again.

So that's why I haven't been posting about it lately...nothing new to say. But don't worry: I will. On another note, I just watched a new Arsenal milled SAM-7 go for around $1300 right here in Kali on Calguns. It took about 45 minutes!

That makes me wonder what my Norinco MAK90 would go for out there?

It also makes me glad that I live in Texas!

Your Norinco would probably go for anywhere between 2-300 more here than anywhere else.

On another note, just today I finally fully assembled it and made sure everything went together correctly...and to get a feel of it in its intended configuration. Of course, I traveled out of state to do this Rolling Eyes . What a simple ingenious little mechanical wonder! I can't wait to fire it a bunch!
