flyandscuba flew up here to N. Ala. this a.m. and we spent the morning at the range doing an exclusive set of wetpack tests to mainly check CorBon's new DPX in .380acp with 4 different pistols...the P3AT with 2.75"barrel, a Jimenex JA380 blowback same barrel length as the AT, a Sig P232 with 3.6"barrel, and a Seecamp LWS380 with 2"barrel. 2 more wetpacks were done to test more DPX rounds with the Seecamp, and test .40cal DPX and 9mm DPX. flyandscuba will report the extra tests and my report here is on the 4 pistol comparison of .380DPX.
Enjoy!

I really forgot to mention, wetpack penetration is approx. 2/3 that of gelatin.
So 8" wetpack equals about 12"gelatin, which is the "magic" FBI number.

I'm just so used to the conversion I fail to realize some folks may not be familiar with it.

og

BTW, doing the conversion on the FMJ gets over 21"gelatin which shows why FMJ is a bad idea for self defense carry ammo.

A great big thanks to all the participants!!!

Great info!

Looks like another confirmation of the effectiveness of the DPX/P-3AT combo.

It was such a pleasure to finally meet and spend some shootin' time with our very own ballistic-testing-expert, oldgrandpa! I learned much from him today -- and just had a good time hanging out with a fellow KTranger (not to mention he took me for some wonderful BBQ at lunch!)

Here's oldgrandpa in action!

video link above -- click to view

The DPX product from Corbon is a winner. I feel completely comfortable carrying this product in all calibers tested today -- .380, 9mm+P, and .40 S&W

Here is a range report from the Seecamp forum regarding the performance of this load through the LWS380:

http://seecamp.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl/YaBB.pl?board=ammo;action=display;num=1148012398

Performance of the .40 S&W from the PM40 was excellent.

So too, were the results from the HK P7M8.

Thanks to both of you for the test, sounds like a good time was had to boot.

I have to admit, I thought the DPX was a lot of hype with a competent bullet. This test has me rethinking my current choices in 380 and 40S&W.

Great info.

the best thing about KTR is how friends here enjoy each other!!

we are so blessed to have guys like byron and norfdet that keep us entertained with their jabbing at each other. Makes my day to read their jabs!

BTW, we also have a great friend on this site in the person of mousegun Marshall.

He has put this thread on his mousegun site, probably the greatest handgun, ammo, CCWinfo "reference" site on the internet, with links to everything. If you haven't seen his site, you've missed it all.

Check www.mouseguns.com clik the Ammunition section and scroll to 380 ammo to see the link.

Then spend the rest of the weekend reading the other links.

Cheers,
og

Great job on the test guys. Maybe we could get together on a drop test sometime. Laughing Fly, can you get up here to Ohio? We have airports up here, too. Byron could sign autographs, even.

Can we drop test Byron?

Perhaps I should get his autograph before we do this.

Outstanding work OG and F&S - a very interesting read. I will be ordering several boxes of DPX for reliability testing with the expectation of it being my new carry round of choice.

edit to add: I appreciated the inclusion of the Magtech First Defense round as well. I have wondered if it would equal the DPX, no need to wonder any longer - scratch it off my list.
